6 Tips On How To Choose New Kitchen Hardware

For our kitchen update, I knew I had to pick hardware that was going to have to blend the old and the new elements of our kitchen.

Because we were adding new appliances and light fixtures, mixing wood and white cabinets, and updating our countertops, choosing our new kitchen hardware wasn’t going to be an easy task.

Here I’ll share the 6 tips I used before deciding which hardware to go with and answering some other common questions to help you make the best decision for your kitchen hardware update.

If you want to give your kitchen a quick facelift, follow along, and let me explain everything you need to know about updating your kitchen hardware!

How Do I Pick New Kitchen Hardware?

Choosing new hardware for your kitchen is exciting but a bit tricky.  With so many hardware types, picking a smart starting point isn’t easy because there are so many factors to consider.

Choosing a finish can be tricky. Be sure to pick one that compliments your cabinets and countertops.

Consider the style of your kitchen. Do you want something traditional or modern? Ornate or simple? Your choice of hardware should complement the overall aesthetic of your kitchen. For instance, if you have a modern kitchen, go for sleek, stainless steel hardware.

And for a more traditional kitchen, warm bronze or brass finishes would be ideal. Give this point time because hurriedly picking a hardware finish can go against your plan.

Another thing to consider is the style of the hardware. Cabinet knobs and pulls come in various types, from simple and streamlined to ornate and detailed, be clear about what you want in your kitchen.

Consider what would work best with the overall look of your kitchen and other objects nearby.

You should also think about how you’ll use this hardware. Knobs are well-suited for smaller cabinets and drawers, while pulls and latches are better for larger ones.

Keep these things in mind as you browse through different options, and you’re sure to find the perfect set of kitchen hardware for your home.

What Should Kitchen Hardware Match?

As any interior decor lover knows, the kitchen is the heart of any home. It’s where we prepare meals for our loved ones and it’s a gathering spot for our dear ones.

That’s why it’s important to create a space that is both functional and inviting.

When selecting kitchen hardware, you have to be extra vigilant. One of the most important things is choosing hardware that will complement the other elements in your kitchen.

For example, if you have stainless steel appliances, you might want to choose matching faucets and light fixtures. Or, if you prefer a more eclectic look, you could mix two different finishes.

Just don’t mix more than three finishes, as this can look cluttered and take focus away from your kitchen’s focal point.

I believe that your kitchen is a blank canvas waiting to be filled with personality and unique touches. You can paint however you like and be experimental with it.

But you should first decide on a finish that compliments the rest of the kitchen. For example, if the cabinets are dark wood, light fixtures and appliance handles in a similar finish would create a cohesive look.

Conversely, mixing and matching different finishes can add visual interest to your space. Another thing to keep in mind is your kitchen’s functionality.

For instance, if the cabinets are close to the stove, choosing longer appliance handles may make them easier to grip. Ultimately, there is no wrong answer when it comes to kitchen hardware.

6 Tips To Help You Choose The Right Finish For Your Hardware Update

If you’re in a pickle about selecting a finish for your kitchen hardware, I am here to make this step easier for you. When I found myself in this situation, I made a quick checklist and chose my hardware accordingly.

Here are a few tips I can share from my experience with updating kitchen hardware:

Tip One: Consider The Other Finishes In Your Space

When deciding on the final touches for your kitchen hardware, consider other finishes in your space. Different finishes can create a sense of harmony or contrast, depending on how you use them.

For example, if you want your kitchen hardware to stand out, you might choose a finish that contrasts with the rest of your kitchen.

Similarly, if you want your hardware to blend in, pick a finish that matches or complements other final touches in your space.

Tip Two: Consider The Size Of And Position Of The Hardware That Will Fit Best With The Size Of Your Cabinets

You should consider the size and position of your hardware when choosing a finish. If you have small cabinets, knobs maybe the better choice as they will not overpower the surrounding space.

On the flip side, if you have large cabinets, pulls may be more appropriate as they can provide a more elegant look. Another factor to consider is the positioning of your hardware.

If the hardware is placed near the stove, choose a finish that can withstand heat and grease. Painted finishes are a good option for this area as they are easy to clean and maintain.

Tip Three: Consider What Style Your Kitchen Is And Choose Hardware To Fit Within That Palette

Undertaking what style your kitchen is while choosing hardware that fits within that palette is smart.

A modern kitchen would benefit from sleek, stainless steel hardware, while a more traditional kitchen might be complemented by brass or bronze fixtures.

In addition to style, consider function when selecting hardware for your kitchen. Make sure to choose handles that are easy to grip and cabinet pulls that are comfortable to use.

Tip Four: Drawer Pulls – Door Knobs

Wondering which hardware to choose for your drawers and cabinets? Well, make it easy on yourself and go with what feels the most natural.

Generally, you want to pull open a drawer… hence using a drawer pull, and you want to open a cabinet either using a doorknob or handle. I went with a combination of door knobs and latches for my cabinets.

Tip Five: Think About The Cost

Should you save, or should you splurge? I say splurge on elements that you are physically going to touch every day.

This means more wear and tear and means it will break down faster if you didn’t splurge for the better material. I went with ReJuvenation rubbed bronze (affiliate link)- it is pricey but worth every penny.

Tip Six: Order Samples!

So you think you’ve found the right hardware, and you’ve built your whole design plan around these gorgeous cabinet pulls.

Only to find out that the color was completely off, and now it’s throwing your whole design off. Always order a sample beforehand and create a little inspiration board.

What Is The Most Popular Finish For Kitchen Cabinet Hardware?

Cabinet hardware is one of those small details that can change the whole look of a kitchen. And with so many options on the market, it can be hard to decide which style is right for your home.

If you’re wondering what the most popular finish for cabinet hardware is, the answer may surprise you. According to recent interior trends, the most popular finish for cabinet hardware is black.

Black hardware can give your kitchen a sleek and modern look, or it can be used to add a touch of contrast to a more traditional space. If you’re thinking about switching up your cabinet hardware, black may be your safest bet.

Other popular finishes for kitchen cabinet hardware include brass, bronze, and nickel. Brass is known for its durability and resistance to tarnishing, which you must ensure in busy kitchens.

Bronze is admired for its classic look – if you admire chic and elegant interiors, bronze kitchen hardware will surely please your aesthetic sense.

Nickel is valued for its contemporary style; if you love low key and subtle kitchen elements, go for nickel kitchen hardware in a heartbeat.

With so many options available, choosing the right finish for your kitchen cabinets can be challenging. Therefore, I suggest researching and making mood boards before deciding on these objects if you’re big on aesthetics.

What Hardware Goes With Stainless Appliances?

Stainless steel appliances are loved because of their sleek appearance and durability. However, choosing the right kitchen hardware to complement your stainless steel appliances can be tricky.

Would black or stainless steel hardware look better? It depends on the overall style of your kitchen.

If you have a modern kitchen with clean lines, black hardware will look dazzling in your kitchen. The contrast between the black hardware and the stainless steel appliances would create a stylish look.

On the other hand, stainless steel hardware will adjust well in a more traditional kitchen. The coordinating metal finish of stainless steel would give your kitchen a cohesive and organized look.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which kitchen hardware goes best with your stainless steel appliances.

Should I Mix Knobs And Pulls?

You probably have a preference when it comes to kitchen hardware (like me). Some people prefer the look of knobs, while others prefer pulls.

But why not mix things up a bit? Knobs and pulls can work well together, creating a stylish look for your kitchen.

The key here is to choose complementary hardware styles that complement each other without looking too matchy-matchy. For example, you might pair sleek, modern knobs with more traditional pulls. and like me, add in some latches to really mix things up!

Or you could mix different finishes, such as brass and nickel. You can create a one-of-a-kind kitchen that is sure to be the envy of all your friends by mixing things up and creating something unique.

What Hardware Goes With White Appliances?

White appliances always scream “sophistication.” They have a timeless quality that lets them seamlessly blend into any kitchen design. But what kind of hardware should you pair with your white appliances? Gold, black, and nickel all work well with white.

Gold adds a touch of luxury, while black and nickel give the space a more modern feel. If you’re unsure which way to go, why not mix and match?

Different metals can add an unexpected element to your kitchen, giving it character and personality. So don’t be afraid to experiment – as I said earlier, your kitchen is your canvas!

What Hardware Goes With Black Appliances?

Gold, black, and nickel all go well with black appliances. Each finish has unique properties that can complement the sleek lines of black appliances.

Gold adds a touch of luxury and can help to create a warm, inviting space. At the same time, black hardware makes a bold statement and can give your kitchen a modern edge.

Similarly, nickel hardware is classic, able to coordinate with various styles. So I love all these with black appliances.

What Cabinet Hardware Is Timeless?

If you’re looking for hardware that will never go out of style, brushed nickel is a classic choice that works well with both traditional and modern kitchen designs.

Another popular option is stainless steel, which has a slightly more contemporary look. If you want something a little more unique, bronze or copper hardware can add a touch of elegance to your kitchen cabinets.

Regardless of which option you choose, make sure it fits your personal style and the overall design of your kitchen.

Is Brushed Nickel Out Of Style In 2022?

From what I can tell, brushed nickel kitchen hardware is still in style come 2022. This observation is based on the current trend of sleek and minimalistic design elements in kitchen décor.

Brushed nickel has a clean, modern look that reflects this trend perfectly. Plus, it’s also a classic finish that will never truly go out of style. So if you’re currently planning a kitchen renovation, I say go for brushed nickel. It’s a safe bet that it will still be on-trend years from now.

What Is The Trend In Kitchen Cabinet Hardware?

The trend in kitchen cabinet hardware in 2022 will be a move towards more minimalist designs.

Sleek and understated hardware will be famous, as homeowners look to create a streamlined and modern look in their kitchens. Brushed nickel and chrome finishes will continue gaining popularity, as will hardware that is easy to clean and maintain.

Another finish that people are talking about I 2022 in unlacquered bronze. This is the finish we went with in our kitchen update. If you are into the “antique” look, this is a great option for you! They slowly patina over time, making them look more antique than they actually are.

Is Oil-Rubbed Bronze Hardware Out Of Style?

Yes, oil-rubbed bronze hardware is somehow out of style. But that doesn’t mean you can’t use it in your home! If you love the look of oil-rubbed bronze, there’s no reason why you can’t incorporate it into your decor.

Is Matte Black Hardware Out Of Style?

Matte black kitchen hardware is not out of style and is becoming increasingly popular as a trendy and stylish option for homeowners who want to add a bit of edge to their décor.

While polished chrome and stainless steel are still the most popular choices for kitchen hardware, matte black is a close third and is growing in popularity all the time.

Thanks to its sleek and modern look, matte black can give your kitchen a fresh and up-to-date feel without completely overhauling your existing décor.

What Metal Finish Is In Style 2022?

According to experience, brushed nickel will continue to be in style in 2022. It has a modern look that will never go out of style. This chic finish is also easy to clean and resists fingerprints and scratches.

Does Oil-Rubbed Bronze Go With Gray?

It can go either way, but most people find that oil-rubbed bronze pulls out the warmth in gray and creates a beautiful effect.

If your kitchen is predominantly gray, then oil-rubbed bronze is a great option to add some contrast and richness. If you want a cohesive look throughout your kitchen, it’s best to stick with a metal that’s already in the room.

If you have silver appliances, then brushed nickel or stainless steel may be better choices than oil-rubbed bronze.

Does Cabinet Hardware Need To Match Door Knobs?

It doesn’t have to match, but it’s nice to tie it in at least one other time. You can either go with all cabinet hardware of the same style or mix and match different styles as long as you tie it in twice.

I went with gold hardware, but used black doorknobs. I wanted to tie in the other back elements in my new kitchen, like my black counter stools.

But just be sure that everything is consistent within each space. For example, it would look strange to have antique cabinet hardware if you have stainless steel appliances , and black door knobs. You can always spray paint your door knobs to match!

Does A Chrome Faucet Go With A Stainless Steel Sink?

A chrome faucet does not go with a stainless steel sink. The two finishes clash somewhat and can look quite jarring when paired together.

If you’re set on having a chrome faucet, then you might be better off choosing a porcelain sink. Stainless steel is surprisingly versatile and generally looks good with just about any finish, so it’s probably best to steer clear of chrome if possible.

Can You Mix Oil-Rubbed Bronze And Chrome?

Sure, you can mix oil-rubbed bronze and chrome in kitchen hardware, but it’s vital to ensure that the finishes are complementary.

Oil-rubbed bronze has a warm, antique look that goes well with traditional or country-style kitchens. While chrome is a cool, modern metal that looks great with sleek, contemporary kitchens – both metals create a pretty stunning combination.

Does Oil-Rubbed Bronze Go With Stainless Steel?

It depends on the style of your kitchen. Some people feel that oil-rubbed bronze and stainless steel clash, while others feel that they pair nicely together.

It’s up to you to decide what look you’re going for in your kitchen. If you want a more traditional or rustic look, oil-rubbed bronze may be a better option.

Should I use a jig when installing my new hardware?

YES! This way all of the holes you drill for your new hardware are accurate and perfectly placed. Plus, using a dig makes installing your new hardware super fast and simple!

Wrap Up

If you have a traditional kitchen with wood cabinetry, choosing classic hardware like knobs or pulls in a brass or bronze finish would be a good choice.

Opt for a more modern kitchen for sleek, minimalist hardware in a chrome or stainless steel finish.

Also, think about how much use your cabinets get used. If you have small children or pets, choosing durable hardware that can withstand wear and tear is important.

They say that the best things in life are worth waiting for – so if you find yourself pining after a piece of hardware that’s outside your budget, don’t be afraid to save up and splurge on something special.

With these guidelines in mind, you’re sure to find kitchen cabinet hardware that will make your heart sing for years to come. I wish you luck with your kitchen renovation!

Be sure to pin for later!
