Farmhouse Exterior Paint Color ideas and inspiration!

Looking for the right exterior paint colors to help to help you pick the right color for your farmhouse? It may sound overwhelming but I’m here to help bring you inspiration that will hopefully help you make a decision.

The first step is deciding the theme and vibe you want to go for, take the landscaping and architecture of your house into consideration, and hope that it all gets executed correctly!

How do I pick the right exterior paint for my farmhouse?

There are so many Pinterest posts that execute their ideas perfectly, but where do you start? From the looks of the title of this blog, you’ve already picked your overall theme of farmhouse.

This helps narrow down what colors best fit with this theme, but you have to decide the kind of vibe you want to give. There’s a modern farmhouse, rustic, classic, and more! It all depends on your household’s feel and interior design.

Then, you can decide on the base color and color palettes you want to follow for your design. The most common color for the farmhouse theme is white.

Painting your house white, or using white siding might be the best choice for you, but the choices don’t end there.

How to choose the right shade of white?

If you’ve walked into a paint store like Sherwin Williams or looked at Benjamin Moore’s paint, you probably know there are endless choices for white paint.

There’s Oyster white, pure white, and so many more names for warmer and cooler-toned paint colors.

If you don’t want to go for white, there are so many more options of grays, and accent colors you can choose from! Finding the right color is a feat, but it is definitely worth it.

I found some ideas that I’ll discuss and hopefully give you some ideas along the way!

Classic White exterior paint colors

If you are looking for a classic theme for your farmhouse, the most common way to go is to go for a warmer, brighter white. There are many examples of lighter whites for farmhouses like this one.

Of course, your house may not look like a traditional farmhouse, but it doesn’t have to! There are different styles you can choose from.

You can find ways to accent your base paint color with your front door, window shutters, and even work with your landscaping to accessorize your exterior look!

These different accents can help boost the theme you want to go for if you want to go more classic, rustic, or modern!

Another route to take when going with the classic white paint color is to go for a cooler toned white color that could be accented in different ways.

Use accents to give your exterior paint a new look

Cool White

This cool-toned white works well with the painted bricks and is accented with darker features like the lights and roof. I think this is a simple twist on the farmhouse style to make it look more modern. With the growing popularity of cool whites, some have started to move towards gray paint and siding.

Classic or Modern Gray exterior paint colors

This example of gray siding uses Benjamin Moore’s Gray husky and gray accents that give just a slight twist to the farmhouse style. The fence, the bushes, and shutters all work perfectly together in the farmhouse theme. And the grays give it just a touch of modern that is eye-catching.

This example goes for a darker gray look using Benjamin Moore’s Kendall Charcoal. It is paired with the textured stone on the pillars and is accented with some white to brighten it up! This darker style is a sleek way to work in the farmhouse theme. The porch is also styled in a way that gives it more of an open welcoming!

The rustic farmhouse theme is also an amazing idea to build on! The rustic theme takes on warmer tones. It uses wooden and red colors that work together to create a unique style for your house!

Exterior paint colors for Rustic styles

A rustic farmhouse can be executed with some grays and whites too, but a running theme in a rustic color palette is cool, dark blues and purples like Nocturnal Gray from Benjamin Moore.

An easy way to add to the look is by working with textures! This example has wooden french doors with a stone path, and the sidings even have a purposeful warm textured look to them!

The idea is also followed through with the storage of firewood ad the potted plants!

Rustic and modern are not separate though, in fact, there are many ideas that marry the two concepts perfectly!

These ideas both work with white siding and wooden accents! The white is paired with dark or black accents like the window trimmings in the first one.

The second one uses oyster white and has a gray roof, and the first one uses a geometric modern light fixture to contrast with the wooden door!

The second one uses wood in the pillars, the railings, and even builds off the rustic theme using the front porch furniture.

These rustic accessor examples perfectly show how different themes can work together to fit your style and the vibe of your household.

There are many different color pallets you can choose from and different ways to give a pop of color, as was discussed earlier.

Accent colors

Sometimes accents are more subtle yet add quite the difference to the exterior of your house. This example uses door colors as an accent, but it doesn’t have a bright color that draws all the attention. The soft green wors with the white of the house and dark trimming.

Some choose to have accents that pop compared to the rest of the house’s exterior! This house has a stunning bright red door, that contrasts with the dark shutters to catch your eye!

An amazing and stunning accent color, depending on your theme, is black! The most common paint color for farmhouses is white, so what better to contrast it than with black?

Black and White Contrast

Those that choose to use black as an accent color use it strategically.  The black garage door is a solid different to the white, and then the black is used in minute places elsewhere like the black window trimmings and door frames.

This house takes advantage of the black and white contrasting idea and makes it work with the exterior of the house.

It uses the accents of black on the garage, the window trimmings, and the pillars of the porch. Plus, accentuates a corner of the house and sets the exterior design apart from the rest.

With it’s sleek and clean, and a new take on a modern farmhouse exterior look!

This idea could also be executed with different color ideas that work within your color palette! Navy blue might work better for your theme or a darker gray like the examples above!

Choosing between the types of white paints, accent styles, and themes for your farmhouse can be overwhelming!

The different styles are always changing and there is always a new way to style things. Hopefully, these Pinterest ideas sparked some inspiration so that you can decide what type of style you want to go for!
